Resources for our Costerfield and Heathcote communities

Our mine in your community

Now part of the Alkane group, the Costerfield team has been embedded in the Heathcote and City of Greater Bendigo communities since the Augusta mine was first developed in 2006.

Costerfield Mine

The Costerfield underground mine and processing facility produces gold and antimony (a critical mineral used for electronics, energy storage, and defence applications). The operation supports more than 250 employees and contractors, most of whom live in the local area around Heathcote.

Sustained growth

After nearly two decades, Costerfield Mine continues to grow resources and prolong the life of the operation. In addition to the nearby True Blue Mineral Resource (gold and antimony), defined in February 2024, we have several near-mine exploration targets in the district.

Our pledge

Alkane and Costerfield Mine respect and strive to respond to the needs of the Costerfield, Heathcote and City of Greater Bendigo communities. We communicate with integrity, work hard to nurture positive relationships, and aim to leave a lasting positive legacy.

Engage with us

We welcome community members to engage with us directly about any of our projects.

Community Reference Sub-Committee

The Costerfield Community Reference Sub-Committee (CRS) comprises members of the Costerfield community, alongside representatives from Costerfield Mine.

The CRS provides a relaxed forum for open discussion about future mine planning and how proposed changes will affect the community, along with any concerns that the community has regarding mine operations.

Please feel free to contact our Costerfield Community Advisor via the community information line to discuss anything you’d like brought up at the monthly CRS meeting.

Community Sponsorship Program

As part of our commitment to leave a positive legacy in the communities in which we operate, Alkane and Costerfield Mine support local projects and events through the Costerfield Mine Sponsorship Program. Funding is awarded on a submission basis measured against the following criteria:

  • Application is for a not-for-profit community project, event or organisation
  • Demonstrable benefit to local communities and/or the environment

The sponsorship program opens twice year in March and September. Fill out an sponsorship request form to apply.

Applications are evaluated by the Costerfield Mine Sponsorship Committee and awarded based on scoring against the criteria and availability of funds.

Careers

Costerfield offers rewarding career opportunities for university graduates, people qualified through the vocational education and training (VET) system, apprentices in some trades and operators with experience in heavy machinery.

Some entry-level operator positions have limited skills requirements, and we encourage members of the local community to apply for on-the-job training. We value employees from a diverse range of backgrounds and are committed to equal-opportunity recruitment.

We are a “residential” operation, meaning all employees return to their own homes at the end of each shift.
